Waiting Child Adoption Program
In the Domestic program, we sometimes have a waiting child. For example, a baby may have been exposed to alcohol and/or drugs in utero, or may have a physical or mental condition for which the prognosis cannot accurately be determined at an early age. Barker usually does not place older children born in this country. In the international program, a waiting child may mean a child over age 3 who has suffered multiple disruptions in his or her life, and possibly abuse or neglect. Prospective families will receive education and consultation about the child's unique needs. The Barker staff will assist the family in identifying and obtaining the services and supports available in their community. If you are interested in providing a family for a waiting child, please contact us.
