Post-Adoption Services

For many families, the relationship with Barker becomes an integral part of their life.  Knowing other families built through adoption can be important for both parents and children.  The agency provides a variety of opportunities for families to establish friendships and to share experiences. 

The Parent Group offers social programs for families.  These include play groups, picnics, family outings, and cultural celebrations.  There are also informal discussion groups and educational conferences for parents on adoption related topics.

Over the course of time, some families consult with our experienced social workers about the issues that arise for adoptive families. Individual counseling is available on a fee for service basis for birth parents, adoptive parents and adult adopted person.  As a community service, we sponsor ongoing support groups for birth parents, adopted persons, and adoptive parents. We also offer a Fall and Spring workshop series covering a variety of topics of interest to adoptive families.
