You can make a difference in the life of a waiting child

More than 500,000 children nationwide remain in public foster care with no permanent home, no “forever family” to provide love, nurturing and stability. The Barker Foundation, with the generous support of the Freddie Mac Foundation, partners with public social service agencies to make a difference in children’s lives.

Barker is seeking couples and individuals who have room in their homes and in their hearts for a waiting child. We can provide you with a comprehensive program of services that includes:

  • Support services and consultation throughout the process
  • Specialized pre-adoption group training to prepare families for foster care and adoption
  • Adoption home study with an adoption specialist
  • Matching and referral of a child or children legally free for adoption
  • Assistance with pre-placement meetings and visitation with the child
  • Placement of the child and post-placement services
  • Lifelong support and access to Barker’s Family & Post-Adoption Services

At Barker, we realize that adoption is a complex process, but one that can bring tremendous joy. Becoming knowledgeable about adoption and this program will help you decide what is right for you and your family.

To help you begin the process, we offer free information sessions that provide general information on adoption and details on adopting an older child. Please see our Calendar of Events to learn about upcoming meetings. You may also request an information packet about Barker’s older child adoption program that will provide you with specific details.

If you have any questions or need additional information, contact the Director of the Program, Tabitha Kelly or call our main office at 301/664-9664.
