20th Annual Adoption Conference - February 22, 2014
The Barker Foundation's 20th Annual Conference
In Our Own Voices:
Adoptees and Foster Youth Speak Out -- Round Two
February 22, 2014 -- 9:00AM-4:30PM
If adoption is designed to provide permanency, love, safety and emotional well being for adoptees, then it is critical to understand the adoptees' perspective.
Through selected panelists, speakers and discussions, The Barker's 20th Annual Conference aims to provide that perspective to all in the adoption constellation.
This conference, back by popular request, reprises our 2009 conference theme.
Keynote Speaker: Victoria Rowell
Emmy-nominated actress, former foster child, and New York Times best-selling author of The Women Who Raised Me.
An advocate for foster children like herself, she founded the Rowell Foster Children's Positive Plan in 1990, which enriches the lives of foster children through artistic and athletic expression.
Other distinguished presenters include:
John Raible has worked across the United States and Canada, for more than thirty years, with adoption agencies, social workers, parents, children, and youth to support families formed through transracial adoption.
Mary O'Leary Wiley is an adoptee and psychologist who has spent much of her career focused on research and practice related to adoption.
For birth parents, adoptive parents,
prospective adoptive parents,
adopted persons and adoption professionals.
