Making An Adoption Plan
You might be asking yourself why consider adoption.
Adoption is not an easy decision. It is a permanent decision in which another family will have legal responsibility for the life and well-being of your child.
However, not every individual is prepared to parent a child when an unplanned pregnancy occurs. Providing a stable and loving family for your child may be the most courageous and responsible decision you can make for your child.
Each person considering making an adoption plan does so for different reasons.
They may not feel they are financially or emotionally stable enough at this time in their life to parent the child, especially if they would be a single parent. They may not have the needed support from the birth father, their family or friends. They also may have other children whom they are already parenting, and believe all of the children will suffer if they parent an additional child. They may not have completed school or may not have stable employment and feel these goals need to be met prior to being able to provide for a child.
It is important for you to consider what your child will need and whether you will be able to provide these things right now at this time in your life. Only you can know if you are ready to parent a child, but counselors at The Barker Foundation can help you to think through your options so you can decide what is best for you and your child.
