The Legacy Fund

Keeping Barker strong, preserving our enduring commitment to serve children and families for a lifetime

Throughout our history, Barker has enjoyed tremendous annual giving and other financial support from Barker families and friends, corporate sponsors, grants and other monetary gifts.

But today, Barker operates in an increasingly challenging climate. To protect our efforts to strengthen and expand vital programs and services, as well as safeguard our ability to serve Washington Metropolitan area families well into the 21st century, The Legacy Fund creates a substantial and protected financial base to help keep us strong and vital.

Income from The Legacy Fund provides a vital financial safety net, allowing us to work in a stable, debt-free environment – assured in our ability to provide services so crucial to all members of the adoption community in Maryland, Virginia, and the District of Columbia today, tomorrow, and in the many years to come.

  • Supporting birth parents with compassionate counseling and resources -- including the funding of special pregnancy and foster care needs, such as food, shelter, extended care of infants with medical needs.
  • Building healthy, confident adoptive families through professional, ethical adoption practices and post-adoption services – with expanded community outreach to help more children find families.
  • Sustaining adopted persons into adulthood with respectful, responsive services – such as the on-going exchange of information and birth family search assistance.
  • And most importantly, protecting the best interests of the children entrusted to us.

When you support The Legacy Fund, you’ll help secure a future for the Barker Foundation worthy of its 65 years of past service to our community. Through your gift, you’ll also have the opportunity to permanently honor your family, child or parents.
